Sync different Live Coding scores

Recommended Posts

Hi!

Sorry for being so annoying with all those questions ... 🙂 Is there a way to play different scores in Live Coding mode and get them synchronised? I'm playing different scores with individual instruments at the same tempo, and it's pretty difficult to launch each score in time with the others  ...

Thanks!

Any news on how to sync 2 different live coding scores? Or how to start playing different Live Coding scores at the same time?

Or I ask for another possible solution... How can I be editing a score in Live Coding where, for example, there are 2 voices, and I want to modify only one and have the second continue playing? I understand that this is only possible by making 2 different scores and running 2 separate Live Coding windows, but it may be possible to do this with only one Live Coding window. I'm just guessing...

You can open as many Workspaces you like. Each one has its own LCI. Check the video here to see how this works:

The video is made with the previous OM but it works the same way.

The sync is not implemented in LCI. I will have a look what can I do.

I've seen that video. Very inspiring! In that video, as music is more "atonal and experimental" it doesn't matter if the different tracks go out of sync. I was thinking about live coding for example an string quartet, with the same tempo for each voice, but not working in a single workspace for the 4 voices but 4 different spaces, each one for a different voice. By doing this we could manipulate one voice and update it while the others are still playing in sync. As the live coding workspaces have the option to update on bar count or beats, I guess that all the LCI with the same tempo will be playing in time.

An small solution could be a way to start all the live coding spaces at the same time. Maybe a global start command, or a midi message to trigger all of them ... Just guessing, but I think it could be a HUGE step for live performances ... 🙂

Ok, so until we have any kind os sync between different LCI workspaces, I've found a workaround by using a mouse automation app. The one I've downloaded that seems to work pretty well is Auto Mouse Click (murgaa.com). You can create lists of mouse actions including positions, clicks and repetitions, and also you can define the delay in milliseconds between each action or retrigs. There's almost no delay (also can be defined) and all the different workspaces start at the same time.

I know it's a bit "rustic" aproach, but it works.

I don't know if this is already covered, but I've been experiencing weird behaviours with different instances of LCI's until I created different Buses, one for each of the LCI's. I was experiencing note-off messages each time I was evaluating scores or when each loop reached it's end. By creating different buses now each loop runs perfectly without interruptions.

Also, In the previous post I said that there's almost no delay with the auto triggering app, but there's almost 0.3 s in delay from the firs sequence to the last (4th). As I use Ableton there's always the option to compensate the delay per track. Also with a M4L device it's something pretty simple to correct.
