I'd like to put arbitrary text over each bar for an exercise I'm doing.  Is there a way to have that appear in the notation?

not really...I finally found an answer in a post from Julio, thanks to him;-)

...I find it unfortunate to refer to the documentation, especially since it would only take you two minutes to provide a concrete example.

This would greatly assist users like myself who find that the documentation lacks simple examples.
